Mirna Valerio, an ultra-marathon runner, is on a quest to establish that fitness isn’t a one-size-fits-all proposition.
Myrna was a high school athlete who loved being active, but her profession and establishing a family got in the way. At one point, she began to get chest pains and believed I was having a heart attack. She consulted a cardiologist who informed her that unless she changed her lifestyle, she would die. So she began jogging. She started running on her treadmill the day following her cardiology appointment and found it to be very uncomfortable, even painful.
She struggled for a long time to build up to being able to run her first mile but gave herself room and patience to keep working toward her objective. That first mile eventually led to 5ks and 10ks, the 10ks grew into half marathons, which led to a full marathon.
Mirna started a blog called Fat Girl Running to chronicle her running adventures. Her candid and amusing posts went viral on social media.
What Mirna wants to accomplish is to help people accept the truth that there are many different kinds of bodies out there. Mirna thinks that everybody, regardless of size, can be fit.
